1. Mechanical deformation induced charge redistribution to promote the high performance of stretchable magnesium-ion batteries based on two-dimensional C2N anodes (Electronic supplementary information (ESI) available: Computational methods; adsorption of Mg atoms on C2N (including the adsorption energy); stress–strain curves of C2N; specific capacity; calculations of open circuit voltages and their curves; possible positions of a single Mg atom adsorption on C2N; the most stable configuration and charge density difference of a single Mg atom adsorption on C2N; optimized structures for second Mg atom adsorption at different sites on C2N (with and without strains) in the atom pair adsorption model; the charge density difference for the most stable configurations of two Mg atoms adsorption on C2N with and without strains; the most stable configurations for three and four Mg atoms’ adsorption on C2N; the most stable configurations of five (strain-free) and thirteen (under −10% compressive strain) Mg atoms’ adsorption on C2N at the end of a 5 ps AIMD simulation; the most stable configurations for the maximum Mg atoms’ adsorption on C2N under biaxial strains; charge density differences for the most stable configurations of the maximum Mg atoms’ adsorption on C2N with and without strains; diffusion paths and their corresponding energy barriers of a single and two Mg atoms diffusing on C2N under 10% tensile strain; total density of states for the most stable configuration of a single Mg atom adsorption on C2N under biaxial strains; total energies of C2N with and without strains; Bader charge (|e|) of one and two Mg atoms, and of the maximum capacity per Mg atom for a C2N monolayer with and without external strains.
